We met 25 years ago when both working in the graphic arts industry. We live since 2003 in the Ardèche and have lost our hearts in this pristine part of the world. Before arriving in France we travelled the world during one year.
Music, dance, theater and opera have our keen interest and we love to dive into a good book. The art cinema in Aubenas sees us every week, as far as the work in and around the house allow. We are eager to share our French and other experiences with our guests. L'Angelot breathes the atmosphere of our foreign travel but we have tried to preserve the character of the original 17th century farmhouse. We both speak English and French and ofcourse our mother language Dutch. Ilse is also keen in Spanish and Fons speaks German.
Ilse, who has a teacher degree from the pedagocical academy, left the printing business already a long time ago to start a career in the social and cultural sector. For many years she was organizing exhibitions at a cultural center near Antwerp. At the same time she volunteered to teach the Dutch language to foreign women in a refugee center near the same city. She loves travelling, cooking, reading, ceramics, movies, gardening. Running a B&B always has been her dream. Before settling down in France she travelled together with Alphonse through the Central American continent. Her special interest in the Spanish language dates from that period.
Fons (the French say 'Alphonse') has a life long link with the noble art of printing. As a free lance partime graphic arts consultant he traveled many years between Antraigues, Amsterdam, Antwerp, Dublin, Edinburgh and London but now this is over. He loves staying at l'Angelot, discussing the world problems with guests of all kind of nationalities. Photography and creating photography books, reading and writing, are among his favorites. And when nobody is at home he strums the guitar. He also is kind of a sporty guy: tennis, cycling and long distance running and... chopping fire wood in the surrounding forest for the winter period. An open MG and the Yamaha motorbike bring him -with his camera- everywhere where great shots can be made.
